Hornsby Shire Mountain Bike Alliance

The trail consultants World Trail (led by Glen Jacobs) have been contracted by Hornsby Council to provide a review of the Shire in relation to Mountain Biking. World Trail will work with the Community and Council to provide a report with recommendations for the area.

The first HSMBA Newsletter has been sent to approximately 300 registered members. The Newsletter invites trail ideas AND requests all members to encourage another 1 or 2 friends to register with HSMBA. Please submit trail ideas by April 1st 2009 to info@hsmba.info. Hornsby Shire Council accepted the recommendations in the business paper and enacted Cr Wendy McMurdo responsible to action them.

On Wednesday night December 10, Hornsby Shire Council will consider the following recommendations in a Business Paper.: 1. Council adopt the attached Unstructured Recreation Strategy. 2. Council authorise further investigation into the development of mountain bike trails within the Hornsby local government area., and 3. The results of the investigations arising from recommendation 2 are reported to Council for its consideration.

Hornsby council business paper reports that over 150 submissions were received relating to mountain bike trails. This is an outstanding response.

A HSMBA meeting was held tonight. Attendees included HSMBA Zone Coordinators, and other interested parties. Discussions included that Council may review a summary of the community comments on December 10 and vote on the next step.

It has been reported that the number of people who have recently written to Hornsby Council in support of improved mountain bike riding facilities has gone over the one hundred mark. HSMBA thanks all persons who wrote in on behalf of themselves, their local friends, and their clubs. The momentum is certainly strong.

Apparently more that 20 letters of support for mountain bike facilities have been received so far by the Council staff. Positive feedback indicates the quality of correspondence is very good, with a variety of age groups providing solid augments for increased support for off-road cycling.

Hornsby Shire Council is accepting emails of support for the provision of a purpose built cross country mountain bike trail. A closing date of 20 October has been nominated.
